December celebrations began approximately 4000 years ago with the Persians and the Babylonians. It’s fallen through the ages to the Scandinavia, Greeks and Romans. It was with the The Roman’s celebrating their god Saturn. Their festival was called Saturnalia which began the middle of December and ended January 1st. The celebration would include masquerades in the streets, big festive meals, visiting friends, and the exchange of good-luck gifts. The Romans decked their halls with garlands of laurel and green trees lit with candles. And during this time saw the rise of Christianity.

But the Christians thought it an abomination to honor the pagan god. The early Christians wanted to keep the birthday of their Christ child a solemn and religious holiday, not one of cheer and merriment as was the pagan Saturnalia. But as Christianity spread they were alarmed by the continuing celebration of pagan customs and Saturnalia among their converts. At first the Church forbid this kind of celebration. But it was to no avail. Eventually it was decided that the celebration would be tamed and made into a celebration fit for the Christian Son of God.

That it was invented by Christians as any other special day or frame of time by anyother religion (Sorry for my repeat, I’ve had a bit of holiday cheer this evening). But for those that have added that the country was established by the founding Fathers to be a Christian Nation…that is totally incorrect. Again, we’re only looking at the cerface of grade school readers and not delving deeper into the truth of history. The majority of our brilliant Founding Fathers were Deists. Which is commonly described as “One who believes in the existence of a God, but denies revealed religion; a freethinker.
Note: A deist, as denying a revelation, is opposed to a Christian”

As stated by John Adams (a VERY respected Father) in the 1796 Treaty of Tripoly, Artical 11, “As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion…” But of course, this is interpreted and re-anylized and rehashed by whom ever to fit that person’s or groups benefit. Though, some times a cigar is just a cigar.

With a simple search into the personal letters and correspondences of leaders like Washington, Franklin, Adams and many others it is abundantly clear that they wanted for religious freedom, being no religon specific.

Cindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08149114142078886223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5698169715365027653.post-21829513874626380552009-09-07T09:54:00.000-07:002009-09-08T11:55:14.049-07:00Better off DEADmy new analogy for
G R O W God Reality Offends the Weary.
This is how it was for me.......

When was weary I realized that the Bible did not to make me stronger...

(MAYBE MY TEMPORARY MIND,maybe )

I was I not growing I was like Jake says here.....

Jake says,

For Pete's sake Bobalou, how can you ask that with a straight face?
